What makes the Back to School Expo unique?
It’s not always easy to convince children that they’ll have fun experiencing the wonders of science and math. The Back to School Expo introduces children to science and math in a non-traditional, non-intimidating setting. The event offers hands-on, interactive opportunities, complete with celebrity and character appearances, making education and science “fun” for the day!
NEW TO THE BACK TO SCHOOL EXPO...
Code/Interactive (C/I) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to inspire the next generation of diverse technology leaders from all backgrounds by ensuring that all students have access to an exceptional computer science education. We are the official Professional Learning Partner of Code.org in New York and New Jersey. Our mechanisms for implementing this mission is to provide teachers with professional development training in computer science and students with thematic programming in computer science, entrepreneurship, and career/college readiness. Our subjects enhance technical and social skills and are linchpins in pursuing high-paying technology jobs in the 21st-century economy. With said jobs predicted to number over a million by 2020, our program not only gives students a chance to improve their economic mobility and health, but that of their communities as well. RETURNING TO THE BACK TO SCHOOL EXPO…
Starlab brings astronomy alive!
The Dudley Observatory’s Portable Planetarium for Enthusiastic Sky-gazers…
AT THE BACK TO SCHOOL EXPO!
We all think in 3-D. Basic concepts in astronomy are best understood by imagining the solar system in 3 dimensions, and from different perspectives. The Dudley Observatory provides interactive planetarium programs where students, teachers, and parents can explore the changing positions of constellations in our night sky and the orbital motions that cause predictable patterns in the phases of the moon and our seasons.
Starlab Meets Standards
Starlab programs are designed to supplement school science programs in earth and space science and address the astronomical concepts in the NYS Elementary and Middle Level Science Core Curricula. Starlab programs are great for libraries, community centers and teacher trainings.
